Answer:
Let’s call the number of chickens = C
Let’s call the number of pigs = P
We know:
C + P = 12
2C + 4P = 34
Solve the system:
From the first equation:
C = 12 - P
Substitute into second:
2(12 - P) + 4P = 34
24 - 2P + 4P = 34
2P = 10
P = 5
C = 7
So, there are 7 chickens and 5 pigs.
